Sarcomas have undergone important advances in their diagnosis and treatment in recent years.
For this reason, coinciding with Sarcoma Day in Spain, which is celebrated on September 20, SEOM has updated the advances in this pathology.
Certain aspects of therapeutic management have been consolidated, as well as the use of certain drugs approved in recent years. Although, given the heterogeneity of sarcomas, these advances have been taking place in certain specific histotypes.
The treatment of these tumors must be multidisciplinary, being essential in localized disease, and must be evaluated by a committee of experts to decide the most appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic plan in each case. In recent years it has been demonstrated that the survival of sarcoma patients is greater in centers with expertise in this pathology. Spain has Reference Centers, Services and Units (CSUR) in sarcomas.
