Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is an indolent B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by the accumulation of monoclonal cells in the bone marrow and peripheral lymphoid tissues, and associated with the production of an immunoglobulin M (IgM) serum monoclonal protein.
In most cases lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, the V region genes of immunoglobulins have evidence of somatic mutation, suggesting that the tumor derived from a population of B cells that have been exposed to an antigen. In some cases it can be detected t(9; 14) (p13; q32) or del(6q21).
