Breast/ovarian hereditary cancer 2 gene panel (BRCA1 and BRCA2)

Female carriers of the mutation, in either BRCA gene, have 60% to 80% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer and 20% to 50% of ovarian cancer, as well as an increased risk of developing other cancers. Family history and age are the most important criteria for genetic testing.

An accurate molecular diagnosis can help estimate the risk of developing hereditary cancer, to establish appropriate cancer prevention measures for each patient and evaluate surgical options.
